Remember the date: December 2008, the first time we reached one billion unique internet users, not including internet cafes and mobile phones. Impressive? Yeah, but if now even the Pope has his own YouTube channel, it’s not that surprising.
Asia comes in the first place, with 41.3% (led by China, the country winner with 17.8% of the total traffic), followed by Europe with 28% (Germany 3.7% and UK 3.6%), North America (US 16.2%), Latin America (Brazil 2.7%) and Africa and Middle East with 5%.
As you could expect, the Google’s sites are #1, with 775 million unique users (wow!), which means that 77% of total global audience has visited it at least once last month. Second and third places go to Microsoft with 64.2% and Yahoo with 55.8%.
So there I was again, living seven days inside the expo center, sleeping, eating, playing e learning in a crazy way in a place that never sleeps, seeing all kinds of people with one thing in common: technology.
A place where you might as well tell jokes like “what c++ said to c? you got no class” and hear loud laughter, or hear a guy hitting on you saying “you’re my Google, where I find everything I want”. Hell yeah, we are among nerds, geeks or any other name you wanna call people who love their computers. Read more...
With all the buzz and so many people surrendering to the device’s charm, it couldn’t be any different. Apple’s gadget won in all categories it participated in Editora Abril’s Info Awards.
It won in 2008 phenomena, with 59% of the votes, best smartphone (easy, no?), with 65% and 2008 hardware with 63%. Carrier Claro won in best 3G network, with 37% of the votes, and the 3G itself won in 2008 technology, with 67%.
The mobile communications market as a whole improved. This year 76 million cell phones were produced in Brazil – 50 million for the country’s own market. That’s a 10+% of increase compared to 2007. Brazil should close this year with nearly 150 million cell phone users.
No reason not to take care of yours. Protect your device from scratches, falls and accidents with invisibleShield, a protective cover or many cell phone models. The ‘add-on’ is a plastic layer used by the military to protect the tip of helicopters’ blades. Check out the video:
All right, it looks like a ‘as seen on tv’ commercial. Nevertheless… =o)
To those that, like us, are interested in mobile marketing, wap, 3G and all things related to this medium, next year will be extremely exciting to users, advertisers and agencies. Some indicators:
Nokia presented N97, promising it’ll be ‘the world’s most advanced mobile computer’. The device in fact brings a whole bunch of improvements compared to present smartphones, such as 48Gb memory, flash-enabled, touchscreen, QWERTY keypad, email, GPS, instant messaging, 5 Mpx camera, WiFi and 3G. These features are not new, but all in one device, yes. Should be in stores first semester.
Terra, one of Brazil’s biggest portals, has aired exclusive content for iPhone, Santa’s Terra, with gifts tips, services, and virtual Christmas cards. Can be accessed on http://m.terradonoel.com.br/
Datafolha published a research that the number of internet users in Brazil has increased to almost 65 million, that is, nearly half of the population above 16. And half of these users are heavy users. 87% surf the web at least once a week. More details here.
Blog a mobile site a day promises to review, er, mobile sites and ask users to evaluate them according to content, interface and usability. Pretty good for us and for advertisers and companies that still have any doubts about whether they should bet on mobile marketing.
You enter the store, find the product you want, speak to the salesman, ask for a discount and he tells you he can’t do it, ‘cos the store has the lowest price in the market. Is that so?
Well, now the negotiation will be harder. For the retailers. It was just launched the mobile version of BuscaPé for iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s free, of course, and can be downloaded here.
And that goes along with this news from m&m, that according to a MMA Latam survey (Mobile Marketing Association Latin America), clients from our continent are open to mobile advertising.
In Brazil’s case, users are looking for Bluetooth devices, and 74% of the interviewees said they got no problem with this kind of content, with 72% revealing they are willing to Opt-in.
As one of the directors of MMA Latam said, “the survey showed that this kind of action is welcome, so it’s worth investing in mobile marketing’.
Coincidence or not, yesterday we said that Zeebo, Tectoy’s new console, was maybe a bit overpriced for the current market, since the price of a PS2 is lower and offers games with better sound and graphics.
So today Sony announced that it will have a factory in Manaus to produce PS2 systems, and it will deliver almost half a million consoles in Latin America next year. No need for speculation, it’s clearly a move towards a future PS3 arrival, considering that Sony has to regain some market share lost to Wii and Xbox. And to reduce the cost and pricing around here, ‘cause, let’s be honest, paying 250 dollars for a PS2 in Brazil when in the U.S. you can get a PS3 for 400 hundred bucks is not a sweet deal.
And what about Zeebo, that will cost around 250 dollars as well, and which greatest advantage is having an accelerometer and 3G access? We sure don’t know, but competition just got a little harder in the ‘cant afford last generation systems’ market.
